Thomas Chadwick

– Framing the Photograph

Thomas Chadwick is a Chicago-based photographer. We updated his visual identity and online portfolio, combing his fine-art sensibilities with his commercial work for a strong presence on the modern web.

Client: Thomas Chadwick
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Industry: Photography / Advertising
Year: 2018
Role: Branding / Art Direction / Web Design + Development
Site: www.a-photographer-called-thomas.com

Thomas came to us knowing that he needed to up his game on the web. Frankly, his old identity and site were no longer up to the quality of the images and he felt it was holding him back so he needed an update to elevate his online portfolio and personal brand.

Through our discussions with Thomas we learned that he was drawn to the websites and brands of fine art photographers with a minimal aesthetic. At the same time he wanted to have the energy and contemporary feel of a commercial photographer. Balancing those two elements became the challenge but also the ingredients for an exciting combination suited for Thomas’ personality and photography.

Once that art direction and visual branding was in place, we focused on making a site that was easy to navigate, while housing a decent-sized body of work. It was also necessary to incorporate more motion than his previous site and make sure everything was optimized for mobile.
